Well I have just bought a Nikon D60 DSLR..thanx to the expensive price of repair for my broken, old and faithful Sony DSC H-1 (RM800 to repair) which I think it 's not worth it at the moment. So welcome me to the world of DSLR. Just bought it less than a week ago, I have captured about 400 photos so far experimenting with night scenes and macro. The rest are still under experimentation. Well after several days of experimenting (sounds better than practicing, since I have an experience of more than 20000 shots under the Sony DSC H-1).
Here's a little short review for my new Nikon D60.
I bought this DSLR at RM1999..ok ler the price..since it's has just been out in the market on Jan 2008. It's one of the cheapest entry level DSLR in the market. Generally out of comparison between Canon 1000D, Nikon D60 and Sony A350, the D60 has emerged as the best in terms photo quality which I have read on the November issue of Digital Camera.
The Nikon D60 is a 10.2 megapixels digital single-single lens reflex camera. The D60 features the Nikon EXPEED image processor introduced in the higher-end Nikon D-3 and Nikon D300...Sounds cool rite? but the photo processing is a lil slow..but that's not the issue.
GREAT VR LENS.
Compare to the predecessor, the D40x, Nikon D60 has several new features which are Stop-movie Creation, Nikon EXPEED Processor as mentioned, self cleaning sensor unit, LCD screen orienation rotation, Active D-Lighting as well as the new VR (Vibration Reduction) Lens Kit.
According to my personal experience, the provided 18-55 mm VR lens, is really good enough to capture many great pictures though it's only 3x optical zoom (compare to my Sony DSC H-1 with 12X..huhuhu) The VR really works very well. I personally captured a shot with a shutter speed of 1/20 and it came out perfectly and sharp. The macro shot is cool as well though with special macro lens, higher detail would be available in your captured photos. RAW nite shots are also cool as I can edit it in my camera before upload it into my laptop. Overall I would say I'm satisfied with the camera and would like to recommend it for beginners. Well if you have the $$, the more expensive the DSLR, the better performance it is. That's my opinion. Watchout for photos from my travel to Japan, Macau, Hong Kong, Gunung Kinabalu and Hainan Island (Haikou and Sanya)
