No! It's not some Harry Potter theme library. It's the Scandinavian library. That's it, during my trip to Malmö in Southern Sweden, I had the opportunity to visit the Malmö City Library (Swedish: Malmö stadsbibliotek) which is located in Malmö, Sweden. Recently in the year 2005, it has celebrated its 100 anniversary. Not so old compare to other libraries in Europe but old enough to towards Asian countries.
The building of the library, which was originally Hotel Tunneln, was first opened the 12 December 1905, At that time they had 3096 volumes - books and periodicals. In 1946 it moved to "The Castle" at Regementsgatan. The Castle, as it had come to be known as, was originally built for Malmö Museum, and was drawn by the architects John Smedberg and Fredrik Sundbärg, who had been inspired by Danish and Southern Swedish renaissance castles.

Malmö City Library, as it is today, consists of three buildings. "The Calendar of light" was drawn by the Danish architect Henning Larsen and was inaugurated the 31 of May 1997. The Castle was restored and re-inaugurated the 24 of September 1999. These two main buildings is linked by a building called "The Cylinder", where the entrance, a information desk, a return desk and a cafe resides.

They even have Japanese Mangas! |
tonnes of CD titles |
and DVD titles as well! |
To date, the Malmö City Library has over 550 000 different media which includes about 10000 DVDs titles and 33 500 music CDs titles In 2006 it became the first library in Sweden to lend/rent video games. This makes the Malmö City Library looks more like a huge rental shop rather than a library. Cool isn’t it? Entrance to the library is free for everyone but I am not sure about the rental/lending fees. There are some great sections whereby you can chat and have coffee at a super minimal price thanx to the utilization of the Swedish taxes
