During my very first trip to Manila in the September, 2013 for a conference trip, I took the opportunity to visit the walled city of Intramuros in Manila. Though the weather was bad and one of the oldest Cathedral was closed for renovation, I have managed to visit another cool Roman Catholic church which is the San Agustín Church. It was constructed during the Spanish colonial period in the year 1607 to be designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, under the collective title Baroque Churches of the Philippines. It was named a National Historical Landmark by the Philippine government in 1976. Interestingly, the church withstood the other major earthquakes that struck Manila before in 1645, 1699, 1754, 1796, 1825 and 1852. (Wikipedia, 2014).
I was lucky enough to encounter a classic Catholic Wedding Ceremony on that day |
The interior of the San Agustín Church is decorated with trompe l'oeil mural on its ceiling and walls |
Beautiful old wood carvings on one of the gates in the church |
Medieval style staircase minus the lightings |
Tonnes of beautiful statues of Angels to be expected
Corridors with centuries old oil paintings (i hope it's not a duplicate) |
That was the first time I have ever seen a pipe organ..sophisticated yet elegant. |
